I should stop reading reviews! I shouldn't decide whether I should or shouldn't read a book based on any, either.
I understand this is a classic, but it's painful when all you want to do is scream, "MAKE YOUR POINT ALREADY AND QUIT BEING A PRETENTIOUS GIT, HAWTHORNE!" Sad truth is that this story doesn't get particularly interesting until the last third; and even then there are still paragraphs of rambling nonsense.
